Companion Animal

Cat, Hamster, Gerbil, Oh My!

This project area is a little different for each county I am sure.  In our county we allow members to show any animal that doesn't have a place in any other project areas.  So for  instance Lydia will bring the hamster, Alaska and they will each bring a donkey, (Ruby, Rudy, or Rue).  We have some friends who will show their non-showable rabbits in this project area (example: mismatched Dutch, a disqualifying dewlap).

Cats also fit under this category!  Lydia loves to take a cat to the fair.  Not because she likes to show the cats necessarily.  She likes to enter the cage decorating contest each year.  ATTENTION: Cats need a rabies vaccine to go to the fair.  If you live in town you probably already have your cat vaccinated however our farm cats require a $60.00 vaccination so we can take them to the fair.  All-in-all Lydia HAS learned a lot about cats, like they do not really like to be caged if they grew up almost feral.  She has learned the different parts of the cat.  She has learned how to sex cats very quickly which has transferred to other species.

Other Ideas

You could enter an informative poster or tri-fold or cat/dog toys.  You could enter a harness you made for your companion animal.
